AEC CELEBRATE FIVE YEARS WITH LORD MAYOR’S SHOW AND DEVELOPMENT SECURITIES

Ascension Eagles were proud to be in the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday, 10th November.  There were over 6000 people taking part, including 2000 servicemen and women, 180 vehicles, 66 floats, 21 marching bands, 21 carriages including the glorious State Coach and of course the giant figures of the City's guardians Gog and Magog. The procession is 3 miles long but fits into a route of only 1.7 miles.

The procession follows the traditional route through the streets of the City to the Royal Courts of Justice where the Lord Mayor Elect takes his oath of allegiance to the Sovereign before the Lord Chief Justice and the Judges of the Queen's Bench Division.

The procession pauses as the Lord Mayor takes his oath and then at 1pm it sets off on the return journey from Victoria Embankment to Mansion House, where the newly sworn-in Lord Mayor arrives to be greeted by the City Aldermen and Livery Company Masters in their colourful gowns.

This is Ascension Eagle’s fifth appearance in the Lord Mayor’s Show, and we are grateful to Development Securities for sponsoring our entry.

“I enjoyed this day.  This was my best day ever.  You could see everyone waving at you.  I was scared, but I still waved.  I am proud to be an Ascension Eagle and I am so glad I got to be in the Lord Mayor’s Show.”  Naiomi Nicholas, aged 11

“This was a once in a lifetime experience for me.  I enjoyed it so much today.  Our team did a great job.  I loved being in the Lord Mayor’s Show.  One day I’ll tell my kids and grandkids all about how I was part of this amazing event.”  Oprah Pierre, aged 13

“It was my fifth year to perform in the Lord Mayor’s Show.  I love the buzz you get off the crowds!  We set a record today and threw 55 back-tuck baskets!  My stunt group worked very hard, but it was worth it when we saw the expressions on peoples’ faces.  We had to be careful not to give anyone a heart attack; people just don’t expect teenagers to be thrown 15 feet up in the air in front of them.  It’s like human fireworks.  What a brilliant way to spend your day!”  Tovonya Raybe, aged 18
